Research to Drink To
items worth a trip to the library
We are pleased to pass the word about these three research reports concerning drink.
"Patients Admitted to Emergency Services for Drunkenness: Moderate Alcohol Users or Harmful Drinkers?" Michel Reynaud, et al., American Journal of Psychiatry, vol. 158, no. 1, 2001, pp. 96-9 (Thanks to Mark L. Burkey for bringing this to our attention.) The authors, who are at University Medical School, Clermont-Ferrand, France, begin their report with the following statement:
OBJECTIVE: Most of the patients admitted to hospital emergency services are drunk.
Nearly two thirds of 200 male hypertensive veterans surveyed in Philadelphia admitted to past ingestion of illicit alcoholic beverages (moonshine), many drinking it recently, and in the North.
